A hybrid combination of powerful dramatic reenactments, state-of-the-art CGI recreations of significant historical locations and oral histories, the NZ Wars series has enthralled audiences and critics around New Zealand.

The series has won numerous awards, including Best Māori Programme at the New Zealand Television Awards (2020).
